Your Professional Teeth Whitening Options in OKC

Posted .

Did you know, one of the first things people notice about you is your teeth? According to research eyes and teeth rank #1 and #2 as the first things we notice about each other. White teeth can not only help make a great smile but can also give a person the extra confidence to smile. Studies show that smiling more can help decrease stress, improve your immune system, decrease your blood pressure and even help you become more successful in business and relationships.

Many people have tried different types of teeth whitening procedures. From whitening toothpaste to whitening strips to the latest internet craze promising incredible results. Some people who have tried these over-the-counter whitening systems want to get their teeth whiter so they contact Advances in Dentistry in Oklahoma City for professional teeth whitening.

At Advances in Dentistry, we have many different options for teeth whitening. If you are wanting to get your teeth the whitest they can be then you might consider professional teeth whitening options that are performed in a dental office. Lumibrite or Zoom teeth whitening in OKC are very effective professional teeth whitening systems.

Both Lumibrite and Zoom use very powerful whitening agents. These whitening systems are much stronger than take-home whitening materials. Zoom teeth whitening or Lumibrite teeth whitening systems work in a similar fashion. First, a lip and cheek retractor is placed in your mouth and a protective gel layer is applied to the gums. A special gel is then applied to the lips. The whitening agents are then applied to the teeth and a special high-intensity light with a “Sapphire Crystal” is placed in front of the teeth for 15 minutes. (This is a very expensive light source costing thousands of dollars). After 15 minutes the teeth whitening agent is removed from the teeth and a new layer of whitening agent is placed on the teeth and the process is repeated another three times. The procedure takes anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half to complete. Typically people see a major change in the appearance of their teeth after professional in-office teeth whitening.

Another teeth whitening option is take-home professional teeth whitening. These whitening agents are also stronger than over-the-counter teeth whitening agents but not as strong as the professional in-office teeth whitening systems. Each of these is available at our Advances in Dentistry office in Oklahoma City.

There are a few different options for professional take-home teeth whitening. One option is custom-made whitening trays. Impressions of your teeth are made and from these impressions models of your teeth are made. From these models, custom-made whitening trays are crafted to precisely fit your teeth. The dentist will then fit the custom whitening trays to your teeth and give you a strong take-home whitening agent.

Next, you will apply a small amount of the teeth whitening agent in the trays and place them on your teeth. You will typically keep them on your teeth anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, once a day or as directed by the dentist. Most people will see whiter teeth immediately and get the best result if they wear the trays for 7 to 14 days.

For ease and convenience “grab and go” whitening trays like Opalescence Go™ at Advances in Dentistry are an option to quickly and conveniently whiten your teeth. These whitening trays are premade and prefilled with a whitening agent. The whitening agent is not as strong as the other professional teeth whitening systems but they do work very well and are very affordable. You wear each disposable tray for about 30 minutes a day, and for the best result, around 10-14 trays are needed. These are also a great way to “touch up” previous professional whitening.
