What are Dental Implants? How Do Dental Implants Work?

Dental Implants at Advances in Dentistry in Oklahoma City

Dental implants are a titanium post or screw that is placed in the jaw bone where a tooth is missing. A crown or cap can be placed on the implant to restore the function of the missing tooth and give a person a nice smile. Dental implants can also be used to replace multiple missing teeth with a fixed dental bridge or they can be used to secure a denture. A denture can be snapped or locked onto the dental implants, allowing a person to eat the foods they want without the denture slipping and causing pain and problems. Dr. Rhodes at Advances in Dentistry in OKC is an implant dentist who has placed thousands of implants in Oklahoma City. He was awarded a Platinum Dental Implant Provider. Call our OKC dentist office today at 405-751-6996 and ask for a no-charge implant consultation to learn how dental implants can replace your missing teeth.

Why Do I Have Cavities? I Brush my teeth every day.

Preventing Cavities, Advice From Advances in Dentistry.

Did you know, according to the CDC, 90% of adults 20 years and older have at least one cavity? To get a cavity (dental caries) you need 3 “ingredients:

  1. Sugar
  2. Tooth
  3. Time

You see, the bacteria in our mouth feed on sugar and starchy foods and the acid eats away at the tooth structure causing tooth decay. Ways to prevent tooth decay is to limit the amount of sugar and starchy foods in your diet. If you do eat or drink sugary foods, limit the time that these materials are on your teeth by brushing and flossing regularly. Also using a fluoride toothpaste and getting a “fluoride treatment” after you have your teeth professionally cleaned, at least twice per year, helps prevent cavities. Fluoride helps strengthen your teeth and can even repair minor damage to your tooth through a process called remineralization. Also, many cavities form in between the teeth where the floss goes. You can brush very well multiple times a day but if you are not flossing daily, decay can form in between the teeth. Interproximal decay (cavities in between the teeth) makes up the majority of cavities in adults. The Cleveland Clinic has a great article regarding tooth decay and cavities. Here is the link. If you are needing a dentist in OKC that can take care of your cavities with a natural-looking tooth-colored filling or crown please call Advances in Dentistry in OKC at 405-751-6996

I am Scared of the Dentist. Do you offer Sedation Dentistry? How Does Sedation Dentistry Work?

Sedation and Sleep Dentistry at Advances in Dentistry.

At Advances in Dentistry, we have been doing “Sleep Dentistry” for decades. Sleep dentistry is also known as sedation dentistry or conscious sedation. This procedure has helped thousands of people who are nervous or scared about having dental work done. If you are having sedation/sleep dentistry at Advances in Dentistry we will prescribe you a few sedation pills for your appointment. You will take a couple of these pills before your appointment and a family or friend will drive you to your dental appointment. (There are no needles or IVs required for our sedation technique at Advances in Dentistry.) The medication helps people relax and fall asleep. The medication will also have an amnesia effect where most people will not remember much or anything about their dental appointment. When you arrive, we will get you comfortable and administer more medication if needed. We will monitor your blood pressure, oxygen level and pulse during the procedure. While you’re relaxed and sleeping we will complete your dental care. When your procedure is over, we will wake you and give you some fluids to drink. Your driver will take you home where you will rest or sleep in the afternoon. The next day you can continue with your normal daily routine.

If you want to learn more about sedation dentistry please give our dentist office in OKC a call at 405-751-6996 and ask for a No-Charge Consultation to see if you are a candidate for sedation dentistry in OKC. If you have any questions regarding dental insurance, payment plans like CareCredit, dental implants, dentures, sedation dentistry, Invisalign, cosmetic dentistry, crowns, root canals or bridges or any other dental-related questions, please call our office at 405-751-6996.
